Willd Exclusive! Alexz Johsnon

Alexz Johnson is a triple threat with her acting, singing and songwriting abilities. She has starred in TV shows such as So Weird and Instant Star, as well as movies like Final Destination 3 and the upcoming House of Bodies starring Queen Latifa and Terrence Howard. While on the show Instant Star, Alexz had the opportunity to show the world what she is capable of when it comes to singing. After signing two major record deals with Capitol Records and Epic/Sony, her debut album never released. Wanting to take control of her own music Alexz began to release her music independently.

Song of the Week: “Fall Down”

This week I’m choosing “Fall Down” by will.i.am feat. Miley Cyrus as my Song of the Week. The song was released on April 16, 2013 as the fourth single from will.i.am’s latest album #willpower, which is expected to be released in the US on April 23, 2013. “Fall Down” has an urban contemporary vibe that differs from the electronic-dance singles previously released by will.i.am (“Scream & Shout” feat. Britney Spears & “#thatPower” feat. Justin Bieber). The song is currently No. 15 on the iTunes Singles Chart, but I expect that to change very soon. “Fall Down” has become one of my favorite will.i.am songs to date. If you haven’t heard the song yet be sure to listen to the official audio (below).

Be sure to download your copy of “Fall Down” on iTunes now.

Throwback Thursday: The Songs That Made Them Famous

This weeks Throwback Thursday post is dedicated the songs that made some of today’s most popular artists famous. In 1993 Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake joined the cast of the hit Disney Channel show The New Mickey Mouse Club. After becoming overnight celebrities, no one could have prepared them for what was in store. In 1995 Justin Timberlake was scouted by impresario Lou Pearlman to join his latest boy band group (a follow up to his success the Backstreet Boys). Justin along with fellow mouseketeer JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass became *NSYNC. The group’s first single was released on January 20, 1998 in the US. Although “I Want You Back” peaked at No. 13 on the US charts the song introduced *NSYNC to the world. I remember hearing it on the radio all the time when I was younger. It’s one of those feel good 90’s songs that everybody loved.

Song of the Week: “Come & Get It”

This week I’m choosing a brand new track from Selena Gomez titled “Come & Get It” as my Song of the Week! It’s been two years since Selena released her third studio album When the Sun Goes Down with her band The Scene. It appears that Selena has dropped The Scene for her latest release. After listening to the teasers Selena posted on her YouTube page I wasn’t sure what to expect, because The sound was completely different than her previous work. “Come & Get It” made its official radio debut on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning, and after hearing the song in its entirety I became obsessed! This will be a sure fire hit for Selena. Be sure to listen to the official audio (below).

Alexz Johnson: The Spring Tour 04/01/2013

After the success of her Kickstarter-Funded Skipping Stones Tour in 2012, Alexz Johnson is back on the road and this time she brought Charlene Kaye, Misty Boyce and Jay Stolar along for the ride. The Spring Tour kicked off on February 28, 2013 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City. On April 1, 2013 Alexz and crew rocked a packed crowd at Schubas Tavern in Chicago and I was there to enjoy every minute. When tour dates were announced I was super excited to see Schubas on the list considering that were I saw her perform for the first time last August. The entire concert was simply amazing.

Song of the Week: “I Like It Loud”

This week I’m choosing “I Like It Loud” by Carmen Electra feat. Bill Hamel as my Song of the Week! The single was released on November 12, 2012 and has recently made its debut on Billboard’s Dance/Club Play top 25. When I think of Carmen Electra I usually think of her as an actress, but “I Like It Loud” shows a different side to the 40 year old Hollywood A-lister. The song’s official music video was released on February 14, 2013 via Carmen’s YouTube page. Be sure to turn up the volume and watch the video (below) because it is H-O-T!

“Don’t want to think too much. Just turn the music up. Yeah, I like it loud”

Throwback Thursday: Total Request Live!

Throwback Thursday Time! Remember when MTV stood for Music Television? Before there was Teen Mom and the Jersey Shore MTV had a string of successful shows dedicated to music. One of the best and most watched shows dedicated to music on MTV was Total Request Live. When it premiered in 1998 TRL became one of the most watched shows on the cable network. The concept of the show was simple. Viewers would request for their favorite music videos and TRL would countdown the top ten videos of the day. When I was younger I remember racing home from school so that I wouldn’t miss a single minute of the show. I miss those days.

Throwback Thursday: Return of the Spice Girls 02-15-08

Throwback Thursday Time! When I was younger I was in love with the Spice Girls. I had all of their CDs and VHS tapes, but the closest I ever got to seeing them live was when my dad let me order their pay per view concert on DirecTV when I was in fourth grade. When the girls went their separate ways in 2000 I thought I might never have a chance to see them live. After a seven year hiatus Mel B, Mel C, Emma, Geri and Victoria announced the Return of the Spice Girls Tour and I was ecstatic. I knew that this was my opportunity to finally see the girls live, and when they posted a Chicago tour date I got tickets the second they went on sale. The concert was held at Chicago’s United Center on February 15, 2008. I went with my best friend Holly. It was a night that we will remember forever.
